Próba nowego spojrzenia z perspektywy słowiańskiej2023-03-31T17:44:54+00:00Zbigniew Babikzbigniew.babik@uj.edu.pl
Onomastic data entitle to believe that Old Polish inherited from Common Slavic two variants of a term for ‘(small) stream’, namely, *ręczaj < *rǫčajь and *ruczaj < *ručajь. Both seem attested only by proper names (15th–20th centuries), the former primarily by four toponyms in southern Mazovia (Ręczaje 3x and Zręczaje), while the latter left traces in the toponymy of Central Poland and of the southern part of Greater Poland. None of them has been confirmed lexically in the „native” Polish dialects of the 20th century.

Starting from the 17th century, texts of some authors rooted in the North‑Eastern periphery of Middle Polish (Lithuania, Byelorussia) attest a term ruczåj -aju ‘stream’, which is to be regarded as a loan from Old Byelorussian. One is inclined to connect its subsequent penetration, as a poetical word, into the literary Polish (the late 19th century) with its multiple occurrences in key instances of poetry by Adam Mickiewicz, the most outstanding writer of the Polish Romanticism, whose roots lay precisely in the Byelorussian ethnic territory.

In the historical Slavic languages we find reflexes of the related variants *rǫčajь, *ručajь, *ručьjь (and *rǫčьjь?) and probably *(ne)rǫčь (~ *(ne)ručь?), the latter presumably constituting a starting point for the former four. A reliable reconstruction of the primary form together with its true etymological cognates seems, however, very difficult, if not impossible at all.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS. The speech development of two neurotypical children stimulated prenatally by the auditory program applied to the infants is presented. These children received the same stimulation in infancy as the children in the experimental group, in order to test its effectiveness. The dynamic speech development of these children made it possible for them to learn to read early using the simultaneous‑sequential method before starting preschool education. Szymanski. It presents a point in the discussion concerning the etymology of the mentioned dialectal word. The author has come to the following conclusions: 1) it is necessary to consider separately etymologically the Proto‑Slavic *ěpa ‘a growth on a tree, a swollen place on the body’ and the Polish and Belorussian dialectal word japa which means ‘mouth; a large hole’, 2) it is unlikely to be a word derived from a child language, 3) the Serbian and Croatian items should be considered as etymologically identical to the Polish and East Slavic ones, 4) japa ‘mouth, map, etc.’ is close to ziapa with the same meaning, 5) the form with onset ja- (japa) is a result of changing word structure, 6) regional spreading of the Polish dialectal words japa and ziapa could indicate on their Ruthenian roots, 7) it is difficult to establish conclusively whether German word forms japen, jappen which mean ‘to open one’s mouth; to catch, grasp with one’s mouth’ have played any part in this process.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS. Their word‑forming development is discussed from interjection through verbs calling the making of this interjection or sounds reminiscent of it, to the names of the activist, i.e. the person who makes this interjection. Then the semantic development of the discussed words is presented. The basic meaning is ‘voice of a crow’, from which the utterance of such or similar voice developed, and then the name of the one who uttered that voice. The second basic meaning in this word family is the sound of something heavy falling on a hard surface. In addition to these basic meanings, which result directly from the association with the sound heard as a gra-, there are more than a dozen secondary meanings, developed in different directions from the basic ones. Formally, this family of words is model. In terms of semantic, however, it is very extensive. A comparative method was used.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS. The language material is authentic, collected and verified on site by Polish dialectologists and includes terms for biological kinship and for relation by marriage and by matchmaking. Special attention is paid to the similarities and contrasts between Polish dialects and East and South Slavic dialects, on the one hand, and the Polish language and the other West Slavic languages, on the other. Emphasis is placed on kinship names that belong to the all- Slavic vocabulary, as well as the expansion of foreign language loanwords and elements that have completely replaced the native lexis. With nomina affinitatis, the disintegration of the old original naming system and the emergence of differences in the Slavic language territory can be traced. Nowadays, grammatical cases allow us to assume that there are a number of Bulgarian dialects that have preserved fragments of old grammatical systems. The methodology of the study was chosen at the model level and limited to one particular pattern of the dative case. This is the pattern of the dative case for purpose as an indirect object in verbs meaning 'give' and 'do someone good'. The patterns are mainly two types: adverbial and adnominal. Many years of research and clinical experience have allowed the author of this article to verify the view of normal speech and communication development in Asperger syndrome. We now know that children with ZA may manifest different types of disorders, concerning both systemic and communicative competence. The author of the article characterises the types of language problems observed in ZA, including: the specificity of early speech development, alalia (delayed speech development), aphasia, comprehension of speech and intonation of speech and indicates their sources and examples. Field research among the Bulgarian minority was conducted in 2013–2022 on the margin of research that was conducted among the Polish minority in this region. The leaders emphasized that no one at home uses the Bulgarian language, although some people remember how their grandparents once used the dialectal variety of the Bulgarian language. In the neighborhood environment, no one speaks Bulgarian in this area either. No one speaks Bulgarian in the families, and Bulgarian is not spoken in the neighborhood either. Living in a linguistically different environment was conducive to rapid assimilation to most of the Russian language. In the family sphere and intergenerational transmission, only Russian is present. In Russian sources there were less professional terms than in Polish sources.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS. In the article the particular attention was paid to the participation and researcher’s contribution to the Proto‑Slavic lexicon which is archival these days. The initial versions of the PSL vocabulary words *medvědь, *mešьka (*mečьka) and *mekati developed by Tadeusz Szymański became the starting point to present them in a broader research perspective (not only etymological, but also ethno‑ and geolinguistics), more than 50 years after being developed. It is worth emphasizing that, despite the significant progress on the work on PSL lexicology, these unique dictionary materials can still serve as a starting point for further detailed research and verification of existing findings.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS. The author presented 68 names of thieves. He extracted linguistic material from 19th‑century texts, but some of the collected units are much older. The author presented the provenance of the names and characterized the material in formal and semantic terms. The author drew attention to the territorial diversity of names – their functioning in the speech of criminals operating in different partitions and their fate after the unification of various parts of Poland. Among the names discussed are, for example: andrus, klawiszarz, pajęczeniarz, szpringer, marwicher, jold.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS. The result of semantic works on the vocabulary gathered within the concept of SILENCE is the categorization on this lexis within semantic field and descrption of its components. The semantic field created on the basis of the analyzed lexical units consists of five complementary zones: no speech; lack of speech and related sounds; permanent or temporary loss of the ability to speak or express oneself; inexpressibility; tabooing.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS. On the basis of historical‑comparative analysis of the Slavic language material, it can be concluded that the name odolan is probably a late borrowing from Ukrainian dialects. It is related to the Proto‑Slavic form *odolěn, which is a derivative of the verb *odolěti ‘to defeat, to win’, derived from the Proto‑Slavic *dolja ‘success or failure, good or bad fate, destiny’. The Proto‑Slavic form *odolěn is motivated by the widely known healing and magical properties of valerian, but it is not a calque of Med. Lat. valeriana, because this Latin name is unlikely to be related to the verb valēre ‘to be strong, powerful; have an advantage, dominate’, and is most likely an adjectival derivative from the name of the Roman province of Valeria.
2023-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS PAEDAGOGICAE CRACOVIENSIS.
